REPORTS: Major Update on AJ Styles’ ‘Heel Turn’ Revealed Ahead of WWE SmackDown 12/22

Fans were caught off guard when AJ Styles returned to WWE after a hiatus due to a scripted injury days before Fastlane 2023. Styles made his way to the ring when both Randy Orton and LA Knight were being attacked by The Bloodline. While The Phenomenal One did help out the two to fend off The Bloodline, he attacked LA Knight after that. While fans are still shocked, there might be a possible and valid explanation for his actions.

Why did AJ Styles attack LA Knight?

While many might think of it as a heel turn, reports suggest that it is not. As reported by FightfulSelect, Styles’ heel turn is not a full-fledged one. He won’t be going around attacking the other faces of the company. Styles will still remain as one of the prominent faces of the company. While his attack on LA Knight did catch many fans off guard, the sources revealed that there is a valid explanation for it. To understand his motives, fans might have to go back in time.

At the 2023 Fastlane, John Cena was supposed to team up with AJ Styles to take down Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso. On the September 22nd episode of SamckDown, the official contract signing was supposed to occur for the tag team match. However, Solo Sikoa attacked Styles backstage injuring him and leaving Cena without a partner.

However, LA Knight came in to save Cena’s day, He signed the contract and partnered up with the Leader of the Cenation to fight The Bloodline. The two were able to defeat Uso and Sikoa, and Knight has been riding the wave of victory. Following his win at the Fastlane, he was all set to challenge Roman Reigns at the 2023 Crown Jewel. He did get a title shot and gave a tough competition to the Tribal Chief, only to be defeated.

Looking back at it, he is still considered a strong contender for Roman Reigns as he is standing in the spotlight. But what could have happened if Knight had not teamed up with Cena? It could have been AJ Styles vs Roman Reigns at the 2023 Crown Jewel. At least that could be assumed looking at how things turned out for LA Knight. The fact that Knight took Styles’ spot at Fastlane might have been the reason why Styles developed resentment against Knight.
