NFL announces 2024 Pro Bowl Games rosters

The Pro Bowl Games are back for 2src24.

A year ago the NFL wildly altered the Pro Bowl format, shifting from an actual game to the “Pro Bowl Games” format, where players participated in a week-long series of events showcasing athleticism and skills in various contests, culminating in a flag football finale.

The 2src23 version of the Pro Bowl Games were ultimately won by the NFC when Kirk Cousins engineered a comeback victory in the flag football finale. The NFC was down 21-15 when the flag football game began — based on the scoring from the earlier events — but Cousins and company won by a final score of 35-33.

While the inaugural Pro Bowl Games took place in Las Vegas, this year’s version will take place in Orlando.

The initial rosters for the 2src24 Pro Bowl Games were announced on Wednesday night, as voted on by the players, coaches, and fans. Each group’s votes count for one-third of the selection process, and the league releases the results of the fan voting earlier in the day Wednesday.

Leading the way in the fan vote? None other than San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, followed by teammate Christian McCaffrey. Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa placed third, followed by tight ends George Kittle and Travis Kelce.

For those wondering, Purdy’s selection makes him the latest “Mr. Irrelevant” to make the Pro Bowl, but not the first. That honor goes to Bill Fischer, who was the last player selected in the 1948 NFL Draft by the Chicago Cardinals. He would go on to play in three Pro Bowls.

However, there is a bit of a catch. Fisher was drafted when he was a junior at Notre Dame, so he opted to return to school for one more year. He won the Outland Trophy as the top interior lineman in the nation, and the Cardinals drafted him again, this time in the first round of the 1949 NFL Draft.

Ultimately, the names may change. Players participating in the Super Bowl will opt out, and other players may opt out as well due to injuries or other concerns. However, these are the initial rosters for the 2src24 Pro Bowl Games, slated to conclude with the flag football finale on Sunday, February 4.
