Former NFL Player Johnny Manziel Apologizes To Drake For “Letting Him Down”

Johnny Manziel stepped into the NFL with a lot of hype but did not live up to it and fell out of the league in just two years. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback apologized to Drake for “letting him down.”

Manziel appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s popular podcast Club Shay Shay on Wednesday (Feb. 21) and took accountability for his irresponsible behavior that led to the downfall of his promising career. He owned the fact that he did not do right by the 6 God and others who believed in him.

“If I handle my business in the proper way, I make him proud, right?” he asked. “Our relationship changes; so like there’s a lot of people that I let down and I truly feel like [Drake] and LeBron [James] at a point in time were people that I really, really let down, you know?”

Johnny Manziel took things a step further, reflecting on his unsavory actions while sporting the OVO brand. “I can even take it a step further and say in 2016, I don’t think I treated Drake the way that I should have with representing the clothes that I was wearing and his OVO brand and his label and everything,” he said. “At that point in time, I was so selfish that I was dragging everybody that was tied to me through the mud.”

The Heisman trophy winner expressed that he has made peace with his past self and desires to say all of those feelings to the Toronto superstar one day. “I’m not harboring on this in any kind of way – I’m just calling it exactly what it is and the way that I feel about it,” he said. “I owe those people an apology and hopefully one day down the line, I’ll be able to have the opportunity as a man to be able to look him in the eye and be able to do that.”

His relationship with Drake was important because the For All The Dogs rapper gave him a major co-sign on the 2014 record “Draft Day,” rapping, “Draft day, Johnny Manziel/ Five years later, how am I the man still?” Manziel took the praise seriously and even tattooed OVO on his wrist. The two met up back in January, with the father of one captioning the Instagram photo: “SZN is alive and well always.”
