On paper, it doesn’t seem like much of game with the Patriots rolling to start the year, outscoring their opponents 76-3 in the first two games. Meanwhile, the Jets are 0-2 and playing third-string quarterback Luke Falk following injuries to Sam Darnold (mono) and Trevor Siemian (ankle).

The Patriots will have to adjust a little bit, as they planned to have Brown in the game, but given their talent on offense it shouldn’t be much of an adjustment.

3 keys to the game

Adjust to loss of Brown

While Brown was only a member of the team for just under two weeks, the Patriots were counting on having him Sunday, so the offense will need to adjust. Look for Phillip Dorsett, Josh Gordon and potentially Jakobi Meyers to have bigger roles than anticipated. In the end, it’s likely Dorsett who will be the player who sees the most increased playing time with Brown no longer in the picture. This could be the perfect game for Tom Brady and Josh McDaniels to figure out what works best without Brown in the mix.

Get things clicking up front

Dante Scarnecchia is big with continuity on his offensive line, and with Isaiah Wynn being placed on injured reserve earlier this week, the unit will have to figure things out. It seems like Joe Thuney will stay at left guard with Marshall Newhouse taking Wynn’s spot at left tackle. Right tackle Marcus Cannon (shoulder) is officially questionable, but if he is able to go, this could be the starting offensive line for quite some time. A solid performance would build momentum moving forward.

Continue impressive play on defense

The Patriots defense has been outstanding, allowing only three points in the first two games and has the chance to continue the trend against Falk and the Jets offense. It will be important to contain Jets running back Le’Veon Bell, but Bill Belichick is typically very good at taking away what the opposition does best. In this case it certainly is Bell.

2. With a win, Brady will claim his 210th regular-season victory, passing George Blanda for the second-most in NFL history.

3. If the Patriots do not allow a touchdown, they will join the 1937 Bears as the only two teams in NFL history not to allow a touchdown in the first three games of the season.

4. The Patriots have scored 76 points through two games. The franchise record for points through three games is 119 (2015).

Prediction

Just like last week, this one has the potential to get out of hand. It took well into the second half last week for the Patriots to pull away and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it happen earlier this time around. The two teams are going in opposite directions at the moment, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see the Patriots run away with this one in a statement game.
